Getting to Harris and then around the island is easy whatever your preferred method of transport. A frequent bus service passes in front of 'Am Bothan' and will take you to all ferry terminals, main villages and places of interest on the island.
BY AIR:
There are a choice of daily flights from Stornoway to Inverness, Glasgow and Edinburgh (excluding Sundays). There is also a daily inter-island air service between Stornoway (Lewis), Benbecula (Uists) and Castlebay (Barra). Flights take less than fifty minutes and there are excellent links between the mainland airports and London. For flight information see British Airways.
BY SEA:
A modern fleet of car ferries connects the islands to each other and to the mainland ports of Ullapool (Wester Ross), Oban, and Uig (Isle Of Skye). The closest terminals to Leverburgh are:
Stornoway (Lewis) from Ullapool Tarbert (North Harris) from Skye Leverburgh (South Harris) for the connection to Otternish, North Uist.
In summer, a choice of two or three daily sailings will suit most travel schedules and with the journey time between Stornoway and Ullapool being only 2hrs. 30 mins, sailing to the islands couldn't be easier. For ferry information, see Caledonian Macbrayne.
Set Sail or Pick up a Paddle
The Sound of Harris offers a haven of endless small islands, inlets and shelter. The more intrepid amongst you will be keen to know that Leverburgh is the gateway from The Minch to the open Atlantic and on, out to St Kilda, a 55 mile sail from here. All seafaring souls are welcome to stop by and make the most of 'Am Bothan's' facilities: warm showers, washing machine, tumble dryer, peat fire, and nearby well-stocked shop. Our position is N57' 46. 052' W 007' 01. 148'. Why not drop in to swap a seafaring yarn or two over a 'wee dram'? If any local pilotage knowledge is needed please do not hesitate to ask.
